USB 3.0: whats new ??

USB 3.0, the new standard of the Universal Serial Bus, has just been launched in to the market. With many new motherboards having USB 3.0 and many PCI/PCIe to USB 3.0 adapters in the market , one must know what does USB 3.0 got to offer. Here, i will tell just that.

Well, basically, in theory, its faster, A LOT faster, up to 10x faster !
With a theoretical bandwidth of up to 4.8GB/s, its 10 times more than USB 2.0 (480Mb/s).
These numbers are theoretical, but even if half the speed can be achieved, it will still be considerably quicker than USB 2.0 .

These kind if speeds would be required. As our Movies become High definition , pictures are 10Mega pixel or more are common, we would need a lot of space and there will be a need to transfer it fast.

USB 3.0 is still very new, it will slowly phase out the older USB 2.0 , but, don't worry, USB 3.0 is fully backward compatible with USB 2.0 devices, i.e all your USB 2.0 devices (Pen drives, Portable Hard drives, etc) will work even with USB 3.0 .Along with high speed, USB 3.0 features many power saving features.

Probably cameras and external Hard Drives will start the shift from USB 2.0 to USB 3.0 and later all kinds of products will catch up.

Currently there are very limited device available that use USB 3.0. There were a few pen drives and portable hard disks that were released that support USB 3.0, but are far too expensive for most. With time, the price will surely fall and performance will improve. But for now, USB 2.0 will still the way to go, till more devices that use USB 3.0 are not released, i see no reason to why we should jump to the new standard.
